so my tías have this tradition…
Every December for a few years now, my mother and her siblings get together for something they like to call their “Sister Weekend”. I’m not exactly sure how it all started, but it’s known throughout the family to be quite the production.
local car culture fuels lasting friendships
Ever since a young age, the beauty of cars has always managed to captivate my interest. The very first car I was obsessed with was the Mach 5 from the original Speed Racer animated series when I was about 11 years old.
the most thanksgiving thanksgiving — and a rescue mission
My future grandchildren may never believe this story about the time I had Thanksgiving in the middle of the California desert while staying in an independent off-grid town called Slab City. It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon in the mid-70s as a nice cool breeze graced those of us gathered together for the Thnaksgiving organized by the Slab City Care Club.

volunteers’ kindness & compassion take the cake
This Thanksgiving, we at the #slabcitycareclub had the profound privilege of serving a holiday meal to over 130 people in need. As volunteers, we have always been committed to providing support and nourishment to our community, but there was something particularly special about this event.

HEBER — The Prestige event center had a grand opening after being operational years ago, last weekend on Janurary 20. Jason Heisel, one of the owners of the building, and Michael Nehas, property owner, both decided to reopen it. The process started last year around June or July.
