people’s press podcast

The People’s Press Podcast is where Imperial Valley talks to itself. Each episode sits down with the residents, students, organizers and local voices shaping life along the border. We cover local news, civic life and the stories that rarely make the headlines, or get flattened when they do.

The podcast comes from People’s Press, an independent, community-centered news organization based in Brawley. We believe you shouldn’t need a press badge to have a story worth telling. We also believe every story deserves accuracy, care and a human editor.

Episode 1

Local stories don’t disappear because they don’t matter. They disappear because no one is listening.

In our first episode, we talk about what’s lost when local journalism is treated as optional, and why community voices still deserve space, attention and care. It’s the start of a new conversation about independent news in the Imperial Valley, and who gets to tell it.

“I was doing deliveries at one of the schools at McCabe, and the woman at the front desk was Christmas to the max. The bells, the sweater, the curls, the glitter. Everything smelled like caramel and gingerbread. People in office settings like that go all out, and I’m not sure they get much love for it, but they really do brighten up that space. I made sure to tell her, ‘I really love your Christmas spirit.’ I’m a bit of a Grinch most years, but when people get that into it, I can’t help but crack a smile.”
